What are the advantages of vinyl frames?
Energy efficiency, longer warranties, relatively low cost and practically no maintenance are the main reasons for the popularity of vinyl replacement windows. Metal frames are terrible insulators and wood frames can be expensive and costly to maintain over time.
What vinyl window manufacturers do you carry?
Anlin, Milgard, Monte Verde, and others. See links.
What are the advantages of wood windows?
Many wood manufacturers such as Andersen and Marvin produce "clad" products which means that there is no maintenance on the exterior surfaces. On the interior surfaces of the wood window one has the option of painting or staining and changing colors at any time. Wood windows have a very elegant, warm appearance and feel and can come with more grid options than vinyl windows.
What wood window manufacturers do you carry?
Marvin, Andersen and Superior. See links.
How do you install your windows and doors?
We do total replacement "new construction" style and retrofit over existing metal frames. All installs conform to local building code regulations, and we adhere to AAMA guidelines.
Do you replace broken glass?
Yes, if the window is covered by a glass breakage warranty, we can order and replace the IG (insulated glass portion of the window) or in some cases repalce the entire vent (moving panel of the window). If it is a product that you did not purchase from us, a local glass shop may be your best choice for broken glass repairs.
Does PG&E have a window rebate program?
Throughout the year, PG&E may offer various programs. However, these programs frequently do end without any notice. Call The Smarter Energy Hotline @ 1 800 933-9555 or go to www.pge.com for your home. There is still time to take advantage of the Federal Stimulus Tax Credit. Save up to 30% of the cost of qualified windows and doors (up to $1500) but you must purchase and have them installed prior to December 31, 2010.
Can I expect my PG&E bills to go down?
Yes, every house is different in the way it is insulated, heated and cooled, but most owners experience a 15% - 40% reduction. Results can vary. Of course it depends on your personal usage but new windows do reduce your energy costs and dependence on foreign oil...plus they just look better.
Do you replace "fogged" dual pane windows?
When you purchase your new windows, and have them installed by Custom Exteriors, we warranty both the product and installation for as long as you own your home. On those rare occassions, we replace any failed insulated glass unit with eithernew complete window. A glass shop can replace just the dual pane glass unit for less money, but it is more likely to fail again and rarely comes with good warranties.
Can I expect noise reduction?
Most homes are noticeably quieter, and there are affordable sound reduction options
Do you do plantation style shutters?
Yes, we can bring samples out to your home for you to see.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, we offer a range of financing options to make paying for your window/door project as easy as possible.
How do you install your windows and doors?
We do total replacement "new construction" style and retrofit over existing metal frames. All installs conform to local building code regulations, and we adhere to AAMA guidelines.
Are your crews and estimaters sub-contractors?
No. We employ over 40 people and pay workman's comp, 401k, medical and dental. There is virtually no turnover and we have very happy employees that are with us for the long haul.
Is stucco damaged during the install?
No. Proper retrofit installations should never damage stucco.
What about my alarm system?
No problem, we explain a very simple 2 step process with your alarm company and all our crews have experience working around all types of alarm systems.
How long does the work take to complete?
Most jobs are done in 1 day. Most start dates are approximately 4-5 weeks after the final measurements are taken. With selected products we can do rush orders in 2 weeks.
Will you install my choice of hardware?
Yes. We can recommend various hardware choices, or you can supply the hardware for us when we come out to do the install.
How do I prepare for the arrival of your installers?
Move furniture several feet away from openings and take down blinds and/or window coverings. We'll bring drop clothes/tarps and carefully cover anything in near proximity to the work areas. When we're finished, your new windows and doors will be clean and we'll haul away the old windows and debris.
